St. Augustine's Annual Fundraiser this year was an evening of fun, laughter, music, dancing, and craic to top any Irish Bash in the land! Deacon Chris Magrega set the evening in motion with a wonderful Irish Blessing. The luck of the Irish seemed to kick in after that, as tales were told, cajoled out of semi-reluctant parishioners by Dennis Magrega, MC'ing the event with grace and aplomb.

The event boasted a live auction. Tables at the back of the hall were spread with interesting items - flannel sheet sets, jewelry and a cool picnic basket that caught my eye. I bid for it pretty late in the process and thought I had it but was outbid by a wilier contender. Local resident Rowena outbid everyone for a coveted case of fine wines.

Soon an Irish dinner was served - hot steaming Irish stew, with seconds offered! The kitchen crew whisked silently through the crowd with exceptional poise and alacrity.

After dinner, an Irish dancing lesson was enjoyed by the bold and adventurous, to music played by Pat Chissel, a well known singer, and his talented cohort, a fiddler and backup vocalist. The amazing duo played a plethora of Irish favorites, including Tied Up with a Black Velvet Band, other country favorites like Tennessee Waltz, and ending with the Pogues' Dirty Ol' Town for a fabulous encore.

All in all, we had a whale of a time!
