Chris, originally from Florida, moved to Vancouver in 1991 for “love”! She married her husband, Dennis at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Kitsilano in 1992 which started her religious journey as an Anglican. She and Dennis were first parishioners at St. Mark’s then long-term members of Holy Trinity Cathedral, New Westminster and it was there that the congregation affirmed her calling to diaconal ministry. Chris was ordained as Deacon in June 2010 at Christ Church Cathedral and served as Deacon at Holy Trinity Cathedral for 6 ½ years in various ministries including pastoral care, liturgical ministry, Christian Formation, women’s prayer ministry and preaching.
Led by the Holy Spirit, Chris entered into a covenant with St. Augustine Anglican church in January 2017 and serves as Deacon assisting the Vicar and lay leadership. Chris introduced a monthly Women’s Prayer service (4th Thursday of the month) in 2017. In 2019 the name was changed to Contemplative Prayer on Thursdays. The average attendance is nine. Chris offers leadership in other seasonal (Lent/Advent) Christian formation events or series. She is a mentor in lay liturgical minister formation. She engages with members of the neighbourhood and community who attend St. Augustine’s various outreach programs including Community Meals, Second Hand Rows Thrift Shop and the Food Bank. Chris also feels strongly about pastoral care through visits to those who are house-bound, in care, or in crisis. She also leads a monthly service for parishioners at the Abbeyfield House of Vancouver Society on Hudson Street.
Chris is a member of Mission and Ministry Development, a Standing Committee of the Diocesan Council. She was a trainer for 6 ½ years for the Diocesan Anti-Racism Program.
Chris retired in 2014 from her position as a speech-language pathologist with Vancouver Coastal Health where she provided therapy services for young children with communication disorders. She and Dennis live in Vancouver and they both enjoy travel, golf, walking and good times with friends.
